The Mobile Workshop will investigate where hotels should be focusing to get the highest return on their "mobile" investment. In addition, it will provide a deep-dive into various aspects of "mobile in hospitality.” This session will examine real-life case studies, including successes and failures. We have assembled a diverse group who will exchange their views and opinions on where the impact of mobile has been the strongest. Participants will gain a better understanding of the world of mobile from the analysis, case studies, and innovative practices that will be presented.

Cocktail Reception at The Villa, Casa Casuarina (former Versace Mansion)
Sponsored by: HRS Group

Soak up the splendor of South Beach’s most exclusive address. Come mingle and network in SoBe style at The Villa, Gianni Versace’s residential masterpiece.

Situated on Ocean Drive, The Villa was originally built in 1930 by Alden Freeman, heir to the Standard Oil fortune. He modeled the mansion after the Alcazar de Colon in Santo Domingo, built in 1510 by Christopher Columbus’ son Diego. During Freeman’s residence, and later when it served as an apartment, the elegant Italian-style mansion drew a stream of free-spirited and artistic personalities. In 1992, it was purchased by the famous Italian fashion designer, Gianni Versace, along with an adjacent hotel. Versace spent a reported $33 million on improvements, transforming the manse into an ornate private residence with ten individually themed bedrooms, hand-painted walls and ceilings, spectacular gardens and a pool decorated with mosaic tiling and 24-karat gold. For years, Versace and his partner Antonio D’Amico hosted lavish parties and couture fashion shows at the estate. After his death in 1997, The Villa became a private club and then a hotel, restaurant and event venue.

8:30 p.m. - 10.00 p.m.
Explore South Beach

After the reception, attendees are encouraged to stay and explore the bustling neighborhood of South Beach on their own. A list of the many nearby restaurants will be provided for those who wish to dine with their associates while out and about.

Independent Lodging: Lost Opportunities?

From four-room country inns to large, urban hotels/motels, these independent properties are truly self-sufficient – operating with little if any guidance from a franchise or rep company. As distribution and marketing costs rise and decisions get more complex, many independent properties don't have the tools, resources or expertise to compete, yet many continue to survive, and thrive. Phocuswright will compare the unique attributes of independent properties in Europe versus the U.S., including market size and composition of the independent lodging market, key differences between Europe and the U.S., effectiveness of distribution and marketing channels, and adoption of technology systems.
