2001 Regional Meeting Feedback |
- Overall success!
- Speakers were diverse, high-level, good quality;
enthusiastic response from Keynote speaker; topics were
good.
- Good balance between hotels and vendors.
- GDS presentations were good, but a bit too long (1/5
hours). Consider shortening to 1 hour so IDS sessions could
be reintroduced.
- Excellent meeting space, natural light a plus.
- Attendees liked 4 GDS presentations.
- Too many IDSs.
- Food was excellent.
- On-line reservations problems with 35 people in
group.
- Bar in West Tower was closed, alternate plans should
have been made.
- Allocation of break times for extended networking worked
well (30 minutes).

| |
2002 Global Meeting Planning |
- Focus should be on "A Decade of Accomplishment",
highlighting committees, networking, accomplishments, etc.
John Burns volunteered to develop initial draft of HEDNA's
accomplishments over our 10 years. This presentation is a
good segway into Awards.
- Plan on 5-minute introduction and 10-minute acceptance
speeches at presentation of Awards. (include time for EMEA
Awards)
- Executive Forum: hear from European hoteliers. Jurgen
Bartels, David Michaels - Hilton International; mergers
& acquisitions, Paul Slattery, Kleinwort Bensen, Europe,
Bjorn Hansem North America.
- Industry Trends session: hear from a visionary, US view
& European view (possibly hear from a Wall
Street/European financial advisor).
- Consolidation in Industry; How to deal with
Consolidators - Panel of consolidators and hoteliers
or 1 prominent consolidator and one prominent hotelier with
Roland moderating.
- Dealing with changes in the marketplace: shortened lead
time and how to cope (See Don Smith), growing contention
between Reservations and Revenue Management, etc. (Radisson,
Shelly Irrgang - manages this well). Include case
studies.
- "User Assistance on Hotel Web Sites - The quality of
user assistance onweb sites varies remarkably, from none to
excellent. That assistance isoften crucial to the site
visitor successfully making a booking. Judy Burns completed
a survey recently of 75 hotel company web sites and her
findings are the basis for an article published in the
current edition of Hospitality Upgrade magazine."
- European technology - mobile phone technology,
Interactive TV, Andbook, Opodo.
- Update audience on European technologies that may be
difference than found in North America.
- Closing Session: i.e. A Decade Ahead by Executive
Advisor, President, or Exec. Director of HEDNA. This would
be the "bookend" to the starting sessions A Decade of
Accomplishment.
- Committee Updates should chairs to the Collaboration
Committee, whose chair would report on all committees' key
priorities and progress.
- Cannot begin program any earlier than 9:00am for Global
Meeting.
- Several people are researching feedback/complaints
regarding Victoria Park Plaza.
- Recommendations for 2002 Regional (Speakers):
- HFTP: John Cahill
- HSMAI: Bob Gilbert
- Gaming: Harrah's CIO
